Vantage Pro2 or Vantage Pro2 Plus?
The difference is the sensors. A standard Pro2 measures temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed and direction, and barometric pressure. Pro2 Plus adds a UV sensor and a solar radiation sensor, which give you evapotranspiration, solar energy and UV index readings. If you are growing anything, irrigating, or tracking disease models, buy the Plus — the 6262UK is the wireless Plus with WeatherLink Console. For general home and garden use the standard 6252 is enough, and you can add the UV and solar upgrade kit later.
Which radiation shield?
Temperature accuracy in direct sun depends entirely on the shield. The standard passive shield is fine in temperate UK conditions. A 24-hour fan-aspirated shield draws air across the sensor continuously and holds accuracy through still, sunny weather — this is what professional and agricultural installations specify, and it is the reason for the price difference between the 6252 and the 6253. The 6263UK combines the fan-aspirated shield with the Plus sensors.
Wireless or cabled?
Wireless transmits up to 300m line of sight, is far easier to install, and is what most customers choose. Cabled versions suit installations where radio is unreliable — dense buildings, industrial sites — or where you want to eliminate battery and solar-panel maintenance from the outdoor unit.
Getting your data online
Newer bundles ship with the WeatherLink Console, which uploads to weatherlink.com over Wi-Fi with no extra hardware. The sensor suite and WeatherLink Live bundle skips the display entirely and puts everything in the app. Older consoles need a data logger. The full range is on our WeatherLink page.
Expanding it later
The Pro2's real advantage over the Vue is what you can bolt on: soil moisture and soil temperature probes, leaf wetness, additional temperature and humidity sensors, repeaters for long-range sites, and a rain collector heater. Nothing needs replacing to expand — sensors are added to the existing system. See the full Davis sensors and accessories range.
Is there a Vantage Pro3?
No. The Vantage Pro2 is the current professional Davis platform and has been continuously developed rather than replaced — the WeatherLink Console is the most recent addition. Davis's newer products sit alongside it rather than superseding it.
Vantage Pro2 or Vantage Vue?
The Vantage Vue is a single integrated unit, cheaper and simpler, and excellent for home use. The Pro2 separates the sensors so you can site them properly, offers fan-aspirated shielding, and takes the full sensor range. Choose the Vue for a house, the Pro2 for a farm, a business or serious amateur observing.
