The Bresser 15013 Terral is a complete garden weather station built around a solar-powered 7-in-1 outdoor sensor that uses LoRa radio to reach the house from up to 1.5km away in open ground. The sensor measures outdoor temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, rainfall, UV level and light intensity, and the 17.5cm multicolour base station adds indoor climate, air pressure and a weather forecast. Wi-Fi publishes your readings to Weather Underground and Weathercloud so the data follows you on a phone. Every measurement can carry its own high or low threshold alert, with max and min memory, moon phase and two alarm times.

The Terral is the practical middle of Bresser's LoRa range: the same long-reach sensor technology as the flagship 4Cast, on a straightforward multicolour LCD rather than a True Black panel. LoRa is what makes it worth considering over a conventional 868MHz station. Where a standard sensor gives up once a wall, outbuilding or belt of trees is in the way, the Terral keeps reporting at distances measured in kilometres, which opens up siting on a paddock, allotment or field edge well away from the house where wind and rainfall readings are actually representative.

The alerting is the other reason people choose it. Rather than a single frost warning, you can assign a threshold to any measurement the station takes, so strong gusts, heavy rain, a falling barometer or an approaching frost each trigger on limits you set yourself. The sensor runs from a solar panel with AA battery backup and comes with its mounting materials, while the base station stands on a desk or hangs on a wall and sets its own clock over the internet. Wi-Fi upload to Weather Underground and Weathercloud is included, and Bresser back it with a five year extended warranty.
