Kestrel wind meters and weather meters, direct from our UK warehouse. Made in the USA and trusted by professionals worldwide, a Kestrel measures wind speed, temperature, humidity, pressure and much more from a rugged handheld unit that will survive being dropped, rained on and carried in a pocket for years.
We hold the full Kestrel range in UK stock, including accessories and replacement parts, so there is no import wait and no customs surprise.
What makes a Kestrel different
Cheap anemometers measure wind speed with a small impeller and little else. A Kestrel is a calibrated instrument: the impeller is precision-made and field-replaceable, the sensors are individually calibrated and traceable, the housing is waterproof and drop-tested, and the readings are consistent enough to be relied on for professional decisions. That is why they appear in military, aviation, firefighting, ballistics, agriculture, industrial hygiene and motorsport use rather than only in gardens.
The 1000, 2000 and 3000 series — simple and rugged
Start here if you want wind speed without complication. The Kestrel 1000 measures wind speed only. The Kestrel 2000 adds temperature and wind chill. The Kestrel 2500 adds barometric pressure and altitude. The Kestrel 3000 adds humidity, heat index and dew point, and the Kestrel 3500 completes the set with pressure, altitude and density altitude. All four take a vane mount for unattended use.
The 5000 series — logging and wireless
The 5000 series adds onboard data logging, graphing and wireless transfer. The Kestrel 5000 is the environmental meter, also available with LiNK. The Kestrel 5200 is the professional environmental meter for airflow and industrial hygiene work, also with LiNK. The Kestrel 5500 is the full weather meter with wind direction, also available with LiNK and graphing. LiNK gives you Bluetooth transfer to a phone or, with the LiNK USB dongle, to a PC; a USB data cable is the wired alternative.
Purpose-built models
Several 5400 variants are configured for a specific job. The Kestrel 5400 is a Wet Bulb Globe Temperature heat stress tracker for workplace safety and sport, and the 5400WL Pro adds wireless. The 5400FW Fire Weather Meter is built for wildfire and controlled burn crews. The 5400AG Cattle Heat Stress Tracker monitors livestock heat load, and the 5100 Motorsport meter gives density altitude and air density for engine tuning, also available with LiNK.
Kestrel DROP wireless loggers
The DROP range is a set of matchbox-sized wireless loggers you leave in place and read from your phone. The DROP D1 logs temperature, the D1P temperature and pressure, the D2 temperature and humidity, and the D3 adds heat stress index. They are ideal for vehicles, stores, kilns, greenhouses and equipment bays. For temperature and humidity alone in a handheld, the Kestrel 7000 with a field-replaceable humidity sensor is the specialist choice.
Accessories and replacement parts
Kestrel components are designed to be replaced rather than making the meter disposable. We stock the replacement impeller, the protective carry pouch, the wind vane mount and carry case for the 5000 series, the vane mount for 1000 to 3000 series, the portable tripod 0796 and the tripod with clamp 0799. More options are in Kestrel accessories.
Which one should you buy?
For occasional wind checks, a 1000 or 2000. For sailing, shooting, drone flying or ballooning, a 2500 or 3500 for the pressure and density altitude. For work where the reading has to be recorded and defended, a 5000 series with LiNK. For heat stress compliance, a 5400. Compare against other options in our handheld anemometers and handheld weather stations ranges.
