How It Works

Dimmer Switches work by reducing the power delivered to your light bulb, this then allows you to dim the light and set the correct ambience in your room. Sadly we cannot use standard dimmers on LED bulbs, as LED’s have a less amount of power consumption to use, unlike traditional halogen bulbs, so we have to use a “Trailing Edge” dimmer.

Manufacturers have designed their LED’s to be compatible with the majority of common “Trailing Edge” household dimmers. This type of dimmer is slightly more complicated and more expensive than a standard dimmer, but they allow for the LED’s bulbs to be able to dim smoothly, without causing problems.

Always make sure which ever dimmer you purchase, you make sure its of good quality as this prolongs the life of our bulbs.

How Many Light Bulbs Can Be Used With A Dimmer?

All dimmer switches have a minimum and maximum rating (watts). Unfortunately LED loading cannot be calculated the same way as a traditional incandescent or a halogen light bulb. A good rule to apply, which is used by most manufacturers, is to take the maximum rating of the dimmer switch and divide by 10. e.g. if you have a dimmer switch with a maximum rating of 400w you can run 8 x 5w Dimmable LED light bulbs.
